Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

Mike Ashley to step down ...

(Newcastle fans reading those few words must have had their hearts in their mouths)

....(but as the announcement continued)... step down as head of Sports Direct handing the reigns to his son in law

Thank goodness he's still staying as head honcho at St James' Park, with the takeover saga due to stretch on another few decades it's crucial Mike guides that ship safely down the divisions to nowhere.

Go on Mike, I support you as boss of the barcodes and always will.

Reading that first line, well let's say my heart was in my mouth too. Relieved to hear he's still weaving his magic at the barcodes.

I actually think Mike Ashley might end up selling to venture capitalists. Given the valuations in football, the likely drop in oil prices and the potential expansion into the American market, I really do see the days of a City style takeover as almost over and the only real interest coming from venture funds. I know the guys looking at West Ham are looking at a potential leveraged buy out.
