Not just you....the Arsenal move was brilliant for him. High-profile club challenging for honours and European football. The chance to work with Wenger at an important stage of your career, along with moving your family to London.
Perhaps it’s me, but I don’t look for loyalty from these footballers. He came for a small fee and was a fabulous player over many seasons. It was probably his actions after he left that most upset Evertonians.
I was reading a bit of Faith of our Families last night, and when Howard Kendall left for Birmingham he explained that :
'Because of the passion that football generates, there tends to be a lot of sentiment attached to relationships with the clubs. I had become an Evertonian and had grown to love the club, but actually, as a player, there's little room for sentiment. It's your job, and the same factors apply to your work as a footballer as they do in most other workplaces."
