Perhaps it’s me, but I don’t look for loyalty from these footballers. He came for a small fee and was a fabulous player over many seasons. It was probably his actions after he left that most upset Evertonians.

I was reading a bit of Faith of our Families last night, and when Howard Kendall left for Birmingham he explained that :

'Because of the passion that football generates, there tends to be a lot of sentiment attached to relationships with the clubs. I had become an Evertonian and had grown to love the club, but actually, as a player, there's little room for sentiment. It's your job, and the same factors apply to your work as a footballer as they do in most other workplaces."

..that’s a really good insight. Let’s not forget loyalty goes two ways, and hundreds of youngsters are dumped by clubs each season. It’s a high reward occupation but it’s also high risk. Footballers are footballers, not fans.

Tonight is the first time I've got to see a full Werder Bremen game this season, they are playing Hertha Berlin. Your old boy Klassen and our old boy Nuri Sahin are both playing really well in this one, Bremen are an enjoyable team to watch for a neutral too.
