After todays meeeting, every day that passes without an appointment brings Unsworth closer to the job I think.

I think its clear that they would rather not appoint Allardyce for more than the rest of the season and Silva is always going to be a stretch. An approach would be messy and you would expect Watford to reject and play hard-ball.

I don't think that's ideal really. The situation can always be re-assessed at Christmas, but trying to get someone then that we might have previously rejected would be very difficult.

I was previously against bringing in someone like Hiddink for 6 months, but it may be worth considering after all. Unsworth, in tandem with an experienced guy like him, might help to steady nerves etc.

It depends on how serious the board regard the situation and the perceived risk of relegation. Surely they are taking soundings from Walsh on that. If he says not to panic, I guess we go with an interim manager. However, if he is pushing for Allardyce, surely he regards the situation as serious enough, as well as the old pals aspect. That is a terrible reflection on him and his work, unfortunately.

What they must absolutely not do is be rail-roaded into a 2.5 / 3 year contract for someone they don't want. The whole thing is a mess really and the totally different qualities of those making up the shortlist are proof of that. No coherent thinking and forward planning again.

A lot of sense in what you are saying mate and the shortlist does look disjointed but I think its worth remembering that its largely populated by the press and their old boys network. I doubt that many people actually know whats going on or being discussed behind the scenes.

Putting all the clues together from news reports and comments on TV and radio I think the 4 candidates are- Unsie, Fat Sam, Simione, and Silva.
Unsie I think has shot his bolt, besides Mosh would prefer Simione of course but this would be unlikely to happen. Silva would be the sensible candidate. He has European and champions league experience, has won trophies, is tactically astute and gets the best out of players. We may have spoken to Alladyce's people (not him) about a short term deal until the end of the season (as recommended by Walsh) so it makes it a lot easier to get Silver then. Sam has probably knocked that idea back wanting a long term deal. Mosh is not interested in Sam long term hence the quote on match of the day.
The subject of the board meeting will be whether to go all out to get Silver the ugly way. meaning he would have to resign from Watford.

Just a speculative hypothesis bases on reports.

In other words ...... a guess.

Yours Sherlock

Another great post mate.

It's very hard to really knows what's happening. It's clear te board is very split, in at least 2 directions currently. Two directions that have very different visions of where Everton want to be. This is also not helped by one side in this (Moshiri) is unclear of exactly how seriously backed his project is.

I think that confusion lingers around football too. It's probably what allows us to make a credible ploy for Simeone on the one hand and wonder if we can prize Dyche/ Silva on the other.

Allardyce is now on the drift. Every day that goes by where he's not appointed will lessen his prospects. Thankfully I think the whole board are United around the idea he is here for 6 months.

Anyone who knows Allardyce knows he will not want that. He's built a narrative, egged on by Keys and Gray (et al) that old white men are not given jobs in football not on account of lack of ability but because essentially a bunch of politically correct pinkos run the game. You cant make derogatory sexual remarks or openly brag about undermining FA rules on transfers and get away with it anymore. They just want foreigners and women running our game. That type of rhetoric.

The idea that Allardyce saves Everton only to hand over his success to another (likely foreign) manager will be too much for him to agree too. It would be him signing up to the idea he is the reason he hasn't been given a top job. He sees Everton as his last chance. No amount of money will make him forego this.

As it stands I can see us sleepwalking into appointing Unsworth particularly if he avoids defeat at Palace.
