This is what makes me think it can't possibly be Allardyce. He was unemployed when we sacked Koeman so he could have come straight in, why wait this long to appoint someone who was already available.
I would say initially the hope was that Unsie would have had a better start, meaning no immediate action need be taken.
The Chelsea and Lyon games were probably not even factored in, it was the two league games before this latest break which were the vital games he would be judged on.
But panic set in after the timid display at Leicester left us in the drop zone hence the Allardyce and Dyche rumours gained traction.
I have no doubt that had Sunday’s comeback not occurred Big Sam and the Merry Men would already be here.
Thankfully things worked out in the end

And the situation does not look as desperate right now.
I do not believe we will go down......whether Sam comes in or not.
In fact, I think there is a greater chance of us going down ifhe comes in because our players are not suited to his tactics and IMO we would be in the thick of the relegation fight by New Year.
As things stand now I am thinking we can take seven or eight points from the next four games and that will comfortably take us into the top half before going the Pit.
To sum up, we are not in a bad enough position at the time of going to press to push the Allardyce button.
And the continued lack of white smoke increases my hope that commonsense is prevailing in the boardroom
