Who would you take mate?
And that is the 64,000 dollar question isn't it? In the position in which we are in atm, I would be inclined to go for someone who would steady the ship, give the players confidence again and start winning a few games, but that brings to mind Allardyce, Unsworth possibly etc. However I would see this as only a short term fix because we need to progress further and have some more ambition. I can say that I do not honestly know who....the ones I do like are in my opinion unobtainable for various reasons, and I will confess my lack of knowledge about the European leagues hence why I was asking about Tuchel. We need to start moving up the table sooner rather than later.

My gut instinct is to turn to a British manager in a time of crisis. We are an absolute shambles at present and that needs addressing now. We will not have the luxury of someone struggling to get to grips with English and anyone coming in wanting to experiment with ideas from some summer coaching school.

Unsworth then, knows the club inside out, knows the history and the expectations, and this would be the pinnacle of his career. We would always have the fall-back of an alternative if he got the job until seasons end, or if they made nothing public about length of contract for 6-8 weeks. Not that I wouldn't want him to succeed. On perceived enthusiasm alone, he would get my vote.

Spurs brought in Redknapp to steady them after AVB and he did far better than that and gave a very solid squad to Pochettino as it was.

If not Unsworth, then I have to say Allardyce, and whilst that isn't popular (and nor for me) I would struggle to come up with anyone who could at least offer a compelling case to get us out of this mess, if little else.

We really have to get out of this slump, and fast. I wouldn't rule out relegation and saying that just shows the gravity of the situation we find ourselves in IMO.

Very true. If you look at Poch's record when saints took him a lot of people would've been against him.
Ahh Benitez.....interesting. I would agree that he is the "type" of successful manager we should be looking at...but his previous history with us would prevent him moving here I think. Pochettino certainly did well at Southampton and now at spuds. Unfortunately these type of managers are not attracted by us, so we may well end up taking a gamble on someone who is not as well feted as them..sadly I am not confident in our board to make the right decision

Hopefully Walsh scouts managers as well as players. It should be part of his role. Shouts for Allardyce, Dyche etc depress me greatly. There must be plenty of gems around Europe and IMHO one in our youth setup

What's the feeling amongst the Dortmund fans do you think he will make it to the top level?

How do you rate him in comparison to klopp?

Tuchel? Obviously can't speak generally about the fans, but he had a bit of a wierd reputation really, half way through last season, many would have gladly seen him gone - and in fact a very high profile BVB fan site / fanzine basically said as much and where hugely critical of him. But he papered over a lot of cracks with winning the cup, so then showing how fickle us fans are, many where sad he was sacked!

I think he will go on to be a very good coach and in the right job, can make it, my hope is, is that he learns from his mistakes at Dortmund - namely off field ones, and learns to work better with others shall we say! He is hugely confident with great belief in his ways, he is a student of the game, and a very deep thinker, he isn't a players coach - and that is also maybe a problem that will get better with experience and maturity.

It's hard to comapre to Kloppo as you have to rememer that under Klopp Dortmund had some of the best times of our lives, he helped build some of the most fun and most likeable teams we've ever had.

It's also hard to compare because they took over the teams under such different circumstances, Klopp taking over a team in big financial troubles and on a downward spiral, Tuchel taking over a very stable team with a good squad and financially sound.

They are very different though. Both in personality and style. Our new coach Peter Bosz for instance is fare more Klopp than Tuchel, Tuchel is more of a thinker I guess you can say. Whereas Klopp is more impulsive. It's very hard to compare though because they came into Dortmund under different circumastances. I hope that makese sense!

Unsworth, Allerdyce, Dyche, Benitez

It swoons of the early 00’s when Megson used to get touted.

If that’s the calibre of coach the fans want then I pray for our future. People called Moyes negative and keeping our expectations low. In all honesty the majority of you live in the dark pit of desperation

You are right , a competent DoF will have an ever present and constantly updated file containing the best and most suited managers available. Plus a competent board would already be discreetly contacting likely replacements. There will probably even be discreet enquiries from ambitious managers who detect an opportunity.
*sigh*. It'll probably be our kiddies coach then.:(

What's your gut feeling if we did convince him to come could it work?

Do you think he could integrate our youth successfully

I know less than Borrusin but I think so. He's always worked with very young squads and was promoted to the Mainz job from their youth setup (U19 I think). No worries about youth with him in charge

I think he's a clever enough coach to be able to adjust to a different type of squad to the one he had at BVB for instance where he had a lot of pace to work with.

So yes, I think it could work. He's someone who will find ways, it may not always work, but he's not a rigid coach, so if it does't work, he'll try another way.

With youth, it's funny really, because people are like 'Tuchel gives young players a chance' - but the thing is at Dortmund he HAD to, cos the club builds from youth and buys a lot of younger players! And some young players where not so happy with him - namely Emre Mor and Mikel Merino. Of cousre he played Dembele and Weigl a lot, they are both special quality players - any coach would play them a lot. Tuchel actually was unhappy the club where bringing in so many younger players after they sold Mkhitaryan, Hummels and Gudogan. He wanted them to spend the money on more established players - it was one of the big disagreements he had with the bosses.

But if you have good young players, he's not afraid of using them - most German coaches are like this because Bundesliga teams tend to put strong emphasis on building form youth.

Not really a case of who we are attractive to but who we are attracted by. A lot of knowledgeable managers don't see us as a sleeping giant but a basket case of a club, which is why only chancers are linked.

If not Unsworth then Eddie Howe for me. He can't seriously want to stay at Bournemouth for much longer. I would like to see a hungry up for it manager. Not a stop gap. I would prefer it goes to Unsworth though. Let's see what he has. He is going to get a job soon enough. Why not us?
