Everton in Manuel Pellegrini probe as club look to ensure former Manchester City boss can restore discipline to the dressing-room
Everton are making reference checks on Manuel Pellegrini before deciding if he is tough enough to restore discipline to the Goodison Park dressing-room.
The main alternative is former Ajax manager Frank de Boer who is highly-regarded in the game for his meticulous attention to detail while former manager David Moyes is also interested in returning to Goodison Park.
Former Manchester City manager Pellegrini impressed during talks with the Everton hierarchy last week but chairman Bill Kenwright and majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri require a strong personality after seeing Roberto Martinez struggle with many of his senior players.
They are currently talking to insiders at City about the Chilean's spell there to try and find out how he handled players and if his true character was more dynamic and forceful than displayed in front of the television cameras.
Martinez lost the respect of several members of Everton's squad who came to view his relentless positivity on the training pitch as insincere.
The club now want a change of culture and decisive style of management which is why Moyes has also been interviewed despite his unpopularity with supporters who were unhappy at the way he left for Manchester United.
De Boer and Sevilla's Europa League-winning manager Unai Emery are also in the frame while former player David Unsworth, who took caretaker charge for the final game of the season against Norwich City following Martinez's dismissal, has also been spoken to.
De Boer, who left Ajax as manager earlier this month, is highly regarded for his meticulous attention to detail and reports from Holland say Everton would also try to coax his director of football, former Arsenal star Marc Overmars, to Merseyside.
Everton are keen to make a decision in the next 10 days with so many issues up in the air regarding next season.
Star names John Stones and Romelu Lukaku are almost certain to leave and the next manager has to decide how to spend the likey £90million revenue.
A number of players including long-serving duo Leon Osman and Tony Hibbert, Steven Pienaar and Darron Gibson are also out of contract and awaiting to see if they will receive new offers.
Former manager Joe Royle, who returned to the club in 2014 to help with scouting and the academy, may be retained as a figurehead but won't wield any power at first-team level.
Cheer up Thomas....we're increasing our ITK's...if this rate continues us normal folk will become the minority!!Quit the Simeone BS lads.
