When Alan Ball was the Southampton manager they played at Goodison right at the end of the 93/94 season, a week or so before the Wimbledon game, and he picked a team without Matt Le Tissier who wasn't even injured! This is all a bit like when you're in your teens and you get dumped by a bird but then go off and tell all your mates that you binned her cos she was doing your head in and/or a crap shag. You cry arse for a few weeks telling everyone who'll listen that you're better off without, when in actual fact you are now completely irrelevant to her as she is now happily being rattled in in the back of a much bigger, better shinier car than yours and ultimately loving the attention.
