I don't get this fascination with youth line.

I couldn't care less if Mourinho was bought in and played a team full of pensioners as long as we were winning trophies.

The thing is we have some highly rated youngsters at the moment: Kenny, Dowell, Walsh, Davies, Connolly, Ledson, Evans. And that's before also considering the likes of Pennington, Browning, Williams etc. They could all indeed end up in League 1 but if they fulfil their potential who's to say you haven't got a class of 92 situation on your hands? Integrating that kind of group (if they're good enough) would save a lot of money and also keep a squad in place with long term ties to the club.

From a results perspective they have been very succesful in result years, regularly been high in both the youth league and cup competitions.

They have also had several players who have done well with the England junior teams - for instance when Ledson and Kenny were part of the team U17 team that won the Euros Chelsea plauers Izzy Brown and Dominic Solanke were important parts of that success.

Indeed Mourinho himself said this in July 2014
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...minic-Solanke-dont-play-England-blame-ME.html
"Jose Mourinho has promised to deliver a bright future for the England national team and insists if three of his young talents at Chelsea don't make it, he will be to blame. The Blues boss has earmarked young talents Lewis Baker, Izzy Brown and Dominic Solanke as future England internationals, and is showing his faith in all three on tour across Europe with the first team. And with all three set to work with the senior players during the coming season, Mourinho is putting his neck on the line by promising FA Chairman Greg Dyke that all three will be full internationals in years to come."

Of the three, only Izzy Brown has a senior appearance for Chelsea - 11 mins in a dead rubber against West Brom at the end of last season.

I think he gave Solanke some game time in the CL last season. To be fair of all CL clubs are there many that give kids in their late teens a chance? I can only think of Bayern having done it recently although could be wrong.

Sky Sports have claimed that Everton have not held talks with Jose Mourinho.
and I see its come from the famous "sky sources"

Skysports are idiots

Sky Sports want us to know our place and pipe down more like!

Sky can do one - sycophantic Untied, RS, Chelski trollops that they are.

From that aerticle

Jose Mourinho has not been approached by Everton about the vacant managerial position at Goodison Park, according to Sky sources.

Everton sacked Roberto Martinez on Thursday, bringing an end to his three-year reign at the club, following a disappointing campaign in which they finished 11th in the Premier League.

Reports this weekend claimed Everton had made contact with Mourinho to discover if he would be interested in taking over at Goodison Park, but Sky Sports News HQ have been told that is not the case

Remember what @The Esk has actually said about this situation, Mourinho actually apporoached us, so whilst they are making out no contact has been had amongts the parties by their phrasing, they would be correct if Esk is right, WE haven't made contact with jose's people, they made contact with us, noticable that they do not outright say that they haven't had talks at all, just that we haven't approached him

Also noticable that when they reported that we had approached the other day - that 'sources close to Mourinho' stated he would turn us down, strange how these close sources never mentioned till two days later that we hadn't approached in this case...

Further shooting holes in the article is the statment - Mourinho and his agent Jorge Mendes will consider all viable options as the Portuguese plans his return to management. a statement which completely goes against their supposed sources of the other day which said he would reject us.

In short it's a clickbait piece, with fluff attached but with enough caveats and with the phrasing they use that they can easily swap it around should anything happen with us and him

Solanke played like 1 game for 20 min or something. He (along with most of Chelsea youth) is in Vitesse now, isn't he? Probably doing well...

Some of us are just interested in the youth setup mate, not just because they seem a good crop at the moment but from a general principle of enjoying seeing young players develop - particularly local lads.

You clearly don't share that interest, which is obviously fine as we all watch the game for different reasons, but personally means a lot to me that we try to use our academy and think it makes good business sense as well.
I like watching the young players develop but for me the main thing about this is we've got the best group of youngsters we've had in decades. I've been watching regularly since the end of the seventies/early eighties and I can't remember better.

Mourinho would be amazing and would pipe everyone right down, but I still think it's unlikely.

I would go for Pellegrini all day long. Winner, loyal, can build a side and has a bit of class about him. I know city underachieved but a lot of that was die to him being cropped on by his board.

Let's be honest, if at Christmas someone would've posted that we would sack martinez and replaced him with Pellegrini most of us would have jizzed on the spot!

Klopp has played a lot of youngsters as well.

Spurs followed by Liverpool are by a decent margin the two youngest 'average age of starting 11's' this season - think us Southampton and Chelsea are all around middle of the pack

Think also United are 3rd on the youngest squad thing as well - plummeted hugely over the past two months with LVG playing the kids a lot

I'm not disagreeing. I made the same point a few days ago on here I think.

I was making the point that football fans are fickle. 2 bad seasons and our stock has apparently fallen again.

I don't live in the north west so I see it first hand.

Exactly mate. I wasn't meaning to come across as snappy, just think that some fans need to realise that, all things considered, that's how we're viewed.

In size and history, we're bigger, yes. But in terms of quality on the field, at the moment we're in the same ball park.

I think I am like most most and would love to see Jose as our new manager but being realistic I would not mind DeBoer Pelligrini or Koeman. What I think we really need is to get the right person in position ASAP. But as we know it can take time.

...I genuinely believe the intent is to do this business as soon as possible. The thread's gone, as is the man, I know, but at risk of ripping ROBERTO further...well, he hardly seemed committed to pre-season & prep really did he. And it showed...I recall about four or five games in last season (can't remember who against in partic) but we looked yards behind fitness wise. And that was a pattern that remained and was never really caught up to.

TBH I can't see that being allowed to happen again.
