welcome to the forum mate. Jags is cover for midfield or right back. Its all asking a bit much to expect him to cover for Yobo and Stubbs/lescott as well, especially as we lose Yobo to the African Nations (presumably).
Our squad is low. Another defender wouldn't hurt, but yes, midfield is the most pressing need.

IMO Appiah is the box to box midfielder who could be the missing piece of the jigsaw (provided the wing sorts itself out with Pienaar or Van de forgetithe'llneverbefit.) He can play the ball on the ground and tackle and pass well. Also scores goals too.

He's a total footballer and I can see his stye suiting the english game.
