Big games are won up front. If you can keep running for 5 or 6 yards on first down then you can be really aggressive with your play calls.

Those sort of runs also mean you can run the play action and get the deep throw if the defence have committed to the run.

Yeah again I accept that.. just still think it's becoming easier for defenses to predict because if it ain't happening on a 1st down it's happening on the 2nd..

Lol. He's done a lot more than that and is clearly a part of their gameplan, and we're only in the heady first minutes of the second quarter. It's ok to admit you're wrong

I do accept that.. but I just feel like they're a complete waste of 1st & 2nd downs like 90% of the time. It's a pretty predictable play.

Yeah, they’re low risk low reward. It does sometimes pay off, and also helps to keep the defence guessing. The Lions use their run game to set up passing plays to good effect.
