Many German POW's made deep friends with their Soviet captors...but also deep enemies. Mad times.

According to my American chum most of them don't know it was the Russians who conquered Berlin as it were never taught in their schools.

Still feel the presence of those days even 70 year on: the older east lads who all know russian as a second language, the west berliners freed from their island of positive anarchy quarter-of-century ago still attempting to insist on those principles in the face of gentrification.

Genuine socialism remains...so no, I don't think I'll be running into the arms of the english way any time soon.

As a dual-national I've had both Brit & German family fight in the two great wars. Horrible horrible stuff. The world's a much better place now, at least in the West.

I'm in a bit of a pickle then. I sleep between the hours of 2am and 6:30am.
