Believe me Phil I wouldn't do that to you.

Cal your right. It's all about the balance and keeping everyone eager for play. For instance look what came out of Babel's mouth today. The Prem is so tough that you deffo need a run of games to hit top form. Moyes keeps it simple with very few changes and most of those being because of injury, suspension or National team duties.

Given the current status of the squad and questions as to whether we have 16 available for the Spurs match, DM must have had severe second thoughts on Vogel. Getting him on free just to add depth seemed so logical. The reports on him must have been dreadful.

was allegedly on keanes radar as well, but he also decided against a move in the end. appears there is something we arent aware of, a possibly injury or a crazy agent. something like, because for interest to cool so quickly is very odd.

I think with his lack of playing over the last 8 months, and his age means he would need a good amount of time to get up to speed with the English game, by which time the season would be over. Which all means Vogel wouldn't be a good choice at this stage.

it's longer then that he was at odds with Betis since January last year not playing a game since in the process, so yeah probably is a lack of match fitness. If he was offered a chance to join us in the summer but refused to take it because of payments he hadn't recieved from Betis then its his own greedy fault.

I think Betis refused the transfer because they decided at the last minute they wanted a transfer fee. He took them to tribunal and won.

ah fair enough, if thats the case then I feel sorry for the lad. You don't get to play for AC Milan without having some quality. What's more frustrating for him is he will probably be overlooked by the swiss national team because of his lack of football.

Is Everton's current squad strong enough to secure Champions League football?

FFC newcomer Jerome Johnstone looks at the progress his beloved Everton have made this season and wonders if David Moyes should have brought in a few more players alongside Fernandes in order to cement their pursuit of a CL spot and UEFA Cup success.

Someone once said to me, why do you support your particular football team? A good question and one that has no real answer. It's ingrained as a kid, you like the name or the colour of the shirt; there is no right or wrong explanation to it, and you just like what you like. I am a Scot from birth and a passionate Celtic fan. I moved down to England in the mid 80s so in truth have probably watched more football down here than in my native land and have great admiration not only for Arsenal but Everton football club.

I don't know what it is about Everton football club that drew me to them, it may have been Andy Gray, who was one of my favourite players at the time; the fact they were top of the table may have helped or it could have been my first experience of Goodison Park, where a Kevin Sheedy strike and Graeme Sharp header gave us a 2-0 victory. I found Evertonians very hospitable that day and a very honest set of people, something that has stayed with me since and something that brought infinity with that club and me forever.

I'm making the trip up to Goodison Park this evening to watch the Tottenham game; one that I'm sure will be a great spectacle and a time for us to well and truly bury the bogey they have had over us at Goodison in the last few years. What I find intriguing about this fixture is that this was the season that Tottenham were going to be a top four side why the rest of us had to fight for a UEFA spot. The upshot is we look the most likely while the Londoners fight it out in mid table.

We sit in 4th spot in the table and massive credit must go to David Moyes in turning a squad, bought in on a shoestring, in Premiership terms, to contenders for the Champions League spot. I always felt a few years ago we may have been a wee fortunate in certain games but this season we have been the real deal this season and more than holding our own up there.

There have been so many positives to take out this season. Howard looks solid, Lescott has been the country's outstanding centre half, Pienaar has been an absolute find and Yakubu is the kind of striker we always thought Daniel Amokachi would have been all those years ago. Alongside Arteta, Cahill, Fernandes and Yobo, we have the nucleus of a side that is more than capable however I just felt we should have shown a bit more ambition in the transfer market, firstly to alleviate the loss of those players in Ghana and just to add a bit more strength in depth and give Moysey every chance. It is vital we cement our place back among the elite and not let a great opportunity pass us by.

I was talking to Everton fans in the city the other day and we were debating this same issue and the general consensus was that David Moyes is satisfied with his mix of experience of youth and is fearful that the bringing in of a few players may unsettle the squad that has performed wonders already this season. That argument holds a lot of weight, but I'm always of the opinion that it is best to improve your squad when you are winning and at the top rather than be complacent and let chances slip you by. Time will tell and I have every faith that David Moyes will call it right and continue to take this great club forward.

Just read this article on FFC and and thought it was a really good thread any views? the lad talks sense!!!!

It's hard to say at this stage because we do have a lot of players unavailable for one reason or another. Cahill and Hibbert are suspended. Baines, VDM and Graveson are injured. Osman is doubtful and of course the three lads out in Ghana. Throw in Turner and the sale of McFadden and you've got an entire eleven there.

It's undisputed that the squad is stretched pretty much to its limit at the moment. The question is, what can we do about it? There seem to be two options.

Firstly you can bring in a short term stop gap, ala Vogel, to cover us during this period. The difficulty with this option is that it is both hard to find decent players willing to accept such a role, and it's also very difficult to find players able to hit the ground running in such a short space of time. It's very feasible that by the time the new boy gets his feet under the table the players are returning and he's no longer needed. Is that a sensible use of limited funds?

The second option is to buy big and get a player that will challenge the first team regardless of who comes back. The January window is notorious for seeing desperate clubs spend £5 million on a McFadden. Quality is by no means assured. Traditionally Moyes takes players on loan in January so he can have a look and make a decision in the summer. We have done just that this year again with Fernandes and he would fit the bill of a potential first teamer if he shows enough over the coming months.

So yes, we are in a difficult spot at the moment, but if anything it's a sign of our progress as a team because when we had injuries early in the season we struggled to get results but now we're grinding out wins even when the performances aren't good. If our big name players put in some performances over the next few weeks and we get out of a very difficult period still with 4th place in our sights then I think we can be pleased.

Bruce couldn't agree more with your view on fernandes , thats why I think tonights game is such a big one. missing so many in the midfield and the points situation with the red [Poor language removed], would be nice to make the gap just that little more hopefully the lad has worked on his fitness as i thought for the first 30 mins the other night he ran his socks off and gave everything,
