Noel Gallagher quits Oasis

Well fair enough.

I just remember stuff at school about segregation between the two religious sects.

I think the religion thing came about as a retaliation against the IRA from the British ( don't quote me ) when Catholics were set upon, but I'm fairly sure the IRA's concerns were originally and solely based upon getting their own country back. I'm certainly not saying religion isn't involved, but merely trying to put across a more accurate portrayal of the history of the IRA.
It's been nearly 30 years since I studied in school, but it's important to establish the original intentions too often clouded by modern interpretation.
I agree there became religious conflict with the IRA attacking protestants, and vice versa, but what I'm trying to establish here is the original history of the IRA before the religious tag.

There's plenty to read here, and it covers pretty much everything including the religious issues :

Anyway, BACK ON TOPIC :P

No Mercury Prize, and Blur thing was NME hyping up a battle to push up sales.

They don't do it as blatant as Noel Gallacher does though. I actually think there are two types of Oasis fans, those who like the music, and those who like the thug attitude - sorry if I put you in the wrong category there mate, but they have that reputation because of Liam's attitude on life - he's a ****, plain and simple.

Sorry, but, are you seriously using this as a reason for them being no good?! Behave, any award which is given to the M People and Ms. Dynamite can't be taken seriously. Complete joke.

And yes, I am a fan who loves the music. Me and millions of others () do. And no we can't be wrong. Because there is no right and wrong when it comes to music. I personally think Radiohead are complete bollocks, but I don't think that people who like them are wrong, they just have a different taste in music. I'm about as far from a thug as you can get, but I love Oasis' music.

No harm in defending them, they did some very catchy stuff. Looking in from outside they just seem like petty crims given a license to get away with whatever they want to. I guess thats born of British 90's culture and they defined it. Bit harsh of me to bash them, but they'd be used to it and it shows your passionate about your music, fair play there.

There just such City supporters and my old man keeps winding me up about the turncoat, the old git.

Anyway just to add, wasnt Noel the shorter one, the brains behind the whole show? Him quitting would be like being in Jim Hendrix Experience after Jimi died.

No worries mate, I am VERY passionate about my music. Music and Everton are my two passions really! I'm used to people knocking my favourite bands, most people my age listen to dance/r'n'b/whatever else so I get slated regularly. I stick up for what I believe in though.

Yup, Noel is the shorter one. Lead guitar and main song writer so yes the 'talented one'. He'll no doubt have an excellent solo career, he's a damn good singer as well.

Oasis have been garbage for over a decade.

Lol, I should have read on. What's going on in this thread ey?

something like oasis copy beatles - john lennon - 'bigger than jesus' - religion eh? - I think religion's great/jarg etc?

Check out 'Dig Out Your Soul' mate.

Flippin eck.
From Oasis to religion to political assassination :o
That Welton Toffee is trouble I tell ya ..... trouble !

ahaha, I have one day away (pretending to have a life etc. Turns out I don't..) and all hell breaks loose!!!

On a serious note, this is a sad day for music really.
Oasis got the guitar bands back to the front of the queue and spawned countless acts in their wake.
Probably the best thing to come out of Manchester in a long time, and that's not a dig at the Mancs either; they were simply great.
Without Liam fronting the band over Noels songs, it just wouldn't hit home as much.
It really has to be both or none. Top band !

Thats a great post mate

Absolute Brilliant band ( City bastards though (n))

Some fantastic tunes over the years

Oasis wouldnt have happened without the Stone Roses though ( Who are / where United through and through (y))

Wonder what happens next ?

Ian Brown is sh*t though . Thankgod he had a hell of a band behind him . That and the fact he looks like a monkey

Music and football don't really mix in my opinion. Music and cycling tho, good combo. Not while one is doing it like, but theme-wise.

My Big Mouth is awesome, they were playing it a lot on this tour, still sounds boss.

I don't think Be Here Now is a bad album. But coming after their first two it was a bit of a step down. Still some great tunes on it though.

They're alright I suppose but there hasn't been much progression has there? That for me is the sign of a great band. If you compare the early Beatles stuff to their later work the transformation was amazing. Likewise the Stones. Radiohead also.

That for me is the reason the likes of U2, Coldplay and Oasis will never be great. They struck a commercially good formula early on and then regurgitated it on album after album. Decent bands all, and not without merit. But great? Not for me.

The beatles had a much bigger opportunity in those days than bands have now. They started off playing rock & roll really, and things progressed from there, but I think it's unfair to use the Beatles as a yard stick for modern day talent.

To be fair to Oasis, they have offered a mixture of music from heavy to ballad, and have had a pretty good run in a market well known for fly by night bands.
