Old Everton Pictures

It was a case of he who laughs last - poor Sandy no one talks about the very good goal thst helped to beat thst lot in a different season - I posted a picture of him in full flight scoring thst dreaded own goal
I was in the Bullens road paddock towards the Gwladys st end and I can still see Sandy flying through the air at the Park end and thinking “ WTF.....”

There's a 5sec clip of this game somewhere, I found it once by accident, I watched a clip, clicked on one of the 8 thumbnails, watched 1 clicked an another set of 8 thumbs, watched 1, clicked on 8 thumbs etc.
Anyway long story short Vernon wasn't offside, but it appears that Young who headed it back across the goal could well have been...just. Harsher rules back in the day, not to mention foreign reffs.
Everybody and his dog was wtf when we came out in white...nobody had said jack in advance
Amazing when you think back then this tie wasn't even shown given the wall to wall coverage nowadays!!

I was at that game and we found out that the rules at the time stated that if both team colours clashed the home team had to change for European games I think
