Old Everton Pictures

The dispute over when the first penalty shoot out in england, the UK, the world took place
The first official one in the UK was in Sept 1970 Honved Vs Aberdeen
The first player to miss one was Jim Forrest for Aberdeen
The first one in England was between Hull and United. Best was the first player in England to score one and Law the first to miss one
Everton were the first shootout in the European Cup.
There historical facts which are great to read, and know.
I know what you may be getting at now though on the exciting night - when we missed our first pen Joe Royle of all players and they scored a lot of fans including the group I was with thought that was it we had lost and made for the exit o lay a few fans to shout it was the best of fivelol
Sandy Browns pen was a corker if the keeper had got near it he would have ended up in the Gladwys street endlol

The infamous day when the teams were taken off the field of play to cool down.
Dispicable tactics - conceived by Revie, who was a decent footballer and thinker in the game and carried out on field by his shight snide in chief Giles...which worked, we had a man sent off and lost 0-1

The reason the Reff took everybody off were, IMO, four fold;

1) Revies doubts and insecurities about his team, this was his answer, his point of difference.
2) The Everton players totally fell for it and actually committed more fouls than Leeds...btw, I totally exonorate Brown for getting sent off, whatever Giles did and maybe said to him in that split second must have been bad as to warrent an instant chinning.
3) The crowd were totally incensed by the blatant 'wrongness' of the Leeds approach
4) The Reffs inability to cope with it, tbf, it was totally alien to anything he'd seen before

Still makes me fume now...

Also, you will be judged, up to a point, by the company you keep and back in the day many and various rs supporters groups and hostelries used to regularly visit after the match with their Leeds counterparts and return the hospitality when they came over

My older brother was there he stated the tackle on Derick Temple was a killer - put him in the crowd almost - that triggered the big fight of many that day!
