Two giants of Merseyside football were born on this date: Tom "Pongo" Waring in 1906 and T.G. Jones in 1917. the nickname Pongo came from his extremely Warings sweaty socks in the dressing room.......
T G Jones was my hero in the 1940's after the war. Brilliant centre-half. When we played football in the street, at school, in Wally Hall Park, I was always 'Tommy Jones'.
