A six-goal thriller ensured honours finished even at Stamford Bridge following a rollercoaster contest.
Chelsea were managed by former Arsenal scoring ace Ted Drake but he didn’t have to pass on many tips to the natural poaching instincts of Jimmy Greaves who fired the hosts ahead after just seven minutes.
Bobby Collins’ 23rd minute penalty was saved by Reg Matthews but the diminutive Scot netted with the rebound.

Charlie Livesey restored the Londoners’ advantage just two minutes later but Mickey Lill levelled again for the Blues just before the interval.
Everton finally got their noses in front on 59 minutes through Scottish left-winger Tommy Ring but Frank Bluntstone struck with just six minutes to go to earn a share of the spoils.
