That's when the lower league sides were mainly in the old League cup , and first division teams it was either optional or they never bothered entering it ?
There was a lot of snobbery, certainly initially, about the League Cup; and a lot of the top teams unquestionably viewed the tournament as a pain or a useful opportunity to blood youngsters. But that attitude changed by the late 60s, even with us - even though our record was lamentable!

We were the last team not to enter it in 70/71. The football league made entry compulsory the following season, although given our attitude to it apart from an occasional season, I think we compete in body but not in spirit.

Given our record, BM, there is even a question as to our corporeal presence on the pitch.

Wasn't our decision in 70-71 determined by our European Cup participation? I dimly recollect, perhaps wrongly, Catterick offering that as the reason.

Maybe as when the big teams had to enter it compulsory the entry round for them was on a home, and away basis......
