I am pretty sure this photo is from the 2-2 March 1970 not the first game of the next season which was also 2-2 at Goodison, the match you mentioned as an early sign that our defence of our championship went a bit pear-shaped from the word go. The Goodison Road stand was more demolished than this by August 1970. I was displaced into the Park End for the August 2-2 iirc.

Yes I noticed later I had the two games mixed up first game 2-0 up drew 2-2 1970/71 season next game was in 1975/76 again as you say 2-2 v Arsenal my mistake - same scoreline , and in 1975 the new stand in Goodison road had started ........

Away matches for me jokey when I was in school where Barnes coaches and I can't remember the other coach firm that used to go from priory rd . Anyone ?
Home James from Wavertree used to do Everton's big away game FA cup ones etc -I remember going to Villa park for the City game ..... trying to forget that ....... traffic jams and an awful game & result... late on......

Thanks mate. I do think the two matches are March in the 1969-70 season then August in the 1970-71 season so both games in calendar year 1970! Just that one photo caught my eye as probably the March 1970 game because most of the stand was still there whereas for the August game I was displaced from the Goodison Rd stand into the old Park End. It was so weird seeing a game from there for me and it was obvious from the end of that draw that defending our title was going to be tough.
No-one expected the pretty speedy decline over the next 15 months or so. Very, very painful disappointment those seasons from being brilliant to being also rans in the blink of an eye really. Hardly any time at all at any rate.

Thanks

It was February 14 the in the title run in 1970 Alan Whittie got two goals in our amazing title run in - we had Arsenal the first game of the following season after a Charity shield win the weekend. Before 2- 0 up at half time, and sadly the team looked
Knackered, Bally got sold in December (n)
