I had the pleasure of seeing this guy in 1963 as a 6 year old, then when he teamed up with Bally what a delight to see he wore the no 7 shirt then he was idolised as he floated over the mud his ability was fantastic, his leap and hanging in the air was a delight to see - Royston Vernon sadly gets overlooked as he played a great role in 1963, and before reading his autobiography now - The fans Idolised them both but the GV was adorned by the goodison faithful, the banners in the Glawdys street had only his name on them mostly and when he scored they went berserk......

I'm reading the Catterick biography atm, and in there Collins is quoted as saying they were the sinned against in the first half: Brown or Gabriel sent off for near snapping Giles in half and then a Leeds player was sent off for doing Derek Temple. According to Collins though Everton got away with a lot of the criticism. From what I can gather that Everton team were no shrinking violets and could put the foot in when required.

I cant praise that Catterick book enough, btw. It's excellent.
can you let me know the title of the harry Catterick book you mentioned - gotta get that

I don't agree that those players were "jaded" - I have no idea why we performed so poorly the season after we won it but whoever did win it probably had a few who played in mexico

At the tail end of my own "illustrious" ;)lol football career,I played with Alans young lad(he wasn't even born on this pic!!)Adam who was just starting out, nice lad and a good player!!
