Was a top bookie when Dixie Dean was playing, and great mates invited Dixie to the horse races up in Yorkshire after winning on a few of Tarbys tips ....Dixie went into the ale tent to have a few pints - the bookie came in and stopped him hey I've entered you for the 1000 yards sprint, and I am running a book on you the favourite is a top runner but you will beat him easy - what's in it for me replied Dixie half of the winnings I collect ....
Dixie strppped down to his long Johns went out and won easily beating the favourite top runner - he was a complete athelete........ he picked up more than a weeks wages Everton paid him in those times.....

Great photo.

Of course in 1958, Leeds had to change into their away white gear against Everton as at the time their first choice was blue with yellow trim or sometimes yellow-halved shirts. Revie changed their first choice to all white in 1961 in imitation of Real Madrid.
 
The 1966 FA Charity Shield Merseyside derby match between Liverpool and Everton at Goodison Park. Before the game, Roger Hunt, Alan Ball and Ray Wilson paraded the World Cup, the FA Cup and the Football League Trophy around Goodison Park.
