....in that great clip posted by @ManxBrian, Joe Royle talks about the great 1970 team and how he, Whittle, Husband, Harvey, Wright, Hurst, Labone and Kenyon came through the Academy.

Different times, of course, but even then Husband, Hurst and Kenyan weren’t local so we must’ve have a scouting network.

Ah, the golden generation.
We did have Johnson Scott, Styles, Telfer, Goodlass, Buckley, Barlow, Unsworth, Rooney, Osman, Cadamatari, Vaughn Anichibe, Hibbert, Barkley, Davies to name but a few.
Is that decent value for 50yrs of academy and youth teams?
Probably.
Then again if you dont buy a ticket you wont win the raffle...which is the whole point.

I read somewhere Dixie was carrying a knock injury , and was in the pub downing a good few pints the reserve no 9 pulled his hammy an hour before kick off - they went to the pub poured as much black coffee down Dixie as they could ....
He played and scored a hattrick .......
