Old Everton Pictures

....ah no, I never got to meet him but he played so many games he was a formative part of my growing up.

There’s an image of Labone, though, that sums up his love for the club, it’s a picture from long after his playing days were over.

That gut wrenching last home game of the season v Coventry where defeat would relegate us was clearly too much for the true gentleman. There was a picture published of him walking down Goodison Road before the final whistle. it was desolate and he cut a lonely figure but he couldn’t stand the tension of the match. I don’t recall ever seeing that picture in this thread.

Like Colin Harvey, i think Brian Labone epitomises the true values of Everton Football Club.
Brian had a heating and vent company after he retired, they were doing some work in the factory where I worked. Labby came in most days to see how the job was going and, as you would expect, I engaged him in conversation on the subject of Everton.

About 3 weeks after his firm had finished the job it was derby day weekend. Labby turned up in our factory on the Thursday and asked if I had a ticket, when I told him I did not, he produced a ticket for the Kemlyn Rd. Stand and said 'you have now'.

A gentleman was Brian and a fine footballer.
