Old Everton Pictures

1st September 1973 Joe Harper seals a 3-0 victory over Ipswich - showed so much promise then put weight on -

when joe Harper signed for us I thought that he would be a good signing. And he did manage to score a few goals. But as like the present day we need/needed better. Good player in Scotland though.
And that Everton team in 1973 was not great. Not just Harper.....

Yes he looked a very good purchase he got rounder and rounder weight wise your correct we were struggling at that time ......

I found a photo of Matthews him snubbing loads of young kids Blackpool fans he was rushing away from about six of them - Bally never liked him - when he played with Matthews he placed a perfect ball on the wing for him to run onto a yard ahead of him, and Mathews just let it go out Bally went mad - I want it at my feet son stated Mathews.......
Bally kept on doing it dropped next game a powerful know it all Mathews?

I think Sir Stan may have thought his seniority, er well senior, outranked the coming young genius and acted accordingly. The Matthews final, helping to make the Tangerines runners up in division one in 56, winning the very first European footballer of the year in that same year at age 41 and a host of other achievements gave him some clout at the club ;)

He was the type of winger in his day unplayable, but I'm not having him upsetting Bally or those loyal fans he would not sign autographs for :D

I believe Stan was in a hurry to catch a train from Blackpool Central to London to get over to watch his son Stanley Matthews Jnr playing at the Wimbledon tennis. He later apologised to the young Seasiders. Not to Bally alas lol

Roy Vernon ciggie watch. One hand ball carry. Got one in his left paw for sure lol
In his biography the Blue dragon they reckon if he had not been a chain smoker - he would have been up there with Law & greaves - the GV stated over 12 yards he had seen no one faster with a burst of speed....
Roy started off as a winger in his youth, his smoking definitely took its toll on him indeed dying so young with lung cancer - he had a thumping shot on him .....

The Brookside cast only one red there -did @T LEAFE ever tell you he stood with Simon O'Brien away at Norwich when we won the league ...... : also the great Bill Dean who was in the GV play -
