Old Everton Pictures

The really great managers and clubs build again. We don't seem to do that.
Catterick was a beaten docket at the time. But systems should have been in place to build again. But we just did not do that.
The late 1980s/1990s was the same.at
And as for the two Newtons......I liked them. But they did play their better football for other clubs.
I agree completely with that mate both era's ended too early with complacency setting in.
We tried for Revie , Clough and Robson but we failed on all of them. The John Moore's that went after Catterick originally would not have accepted anything but the best but by the early 70s he had lost his focus and desire for the club.

His health was on the drain he had in those days make sure the attendances paid the players wages no Sky money then.... his slight heart attack was the beginning of the end for the Catt - moved upstairs .......
Fair dos to Shankly who I hated in the rival days - he fought like mad to get him manager of the year in 1970 but Revie got it I think.......

Hopefully now we can build a decent squad with a decent manager now in place.
Hopefully no more dud buys. No more rubbish. Hopefully Ancelotti gets this Everton team going places. He has at least got them winning. Holding on to leads. Let this new era begin( famous last words).
Anyhow.........I agree with everything you said. Would have loved to have seen Clough at Everton. We probably haggled with him over a few quid.
I suppose he would have brought that midfielder (that went everywhere with him), to the club. His name has escaped me......

I didn't know that about Shankly . Remember when we were all delighted when he quit then the cult decided to promote Paisley , I am just praying it isn't starting all over again once in a lifetime is enough.

Hector wasn't it ?
Clough took Archie Gemell when we were in for him , I think he would have been huge for us.
Amen to the rest of your post us arl fellas need to see the Blues on top again before we pass from this mortal coil

He fell out with them big time - Shankly visited us our game our training etc big time - Big Joe stated in his book that the Catt & Shankly were two polar opposites, but both very, very good managers in their different way ...... but Shankly was more straight forward on a one to one basis .....

John Mcgovern. His name just came to me. Clough took him everywhere with him. Hartlepool...Derby....Leeds Utd and Forest. Heard a story that he would have been capped for Scotland but the manager at the time did not know that he was scottish.

Is that the Goodison Rd Stand in the background or the Bullens? Either way, I can't recall there ever being any type of caged fencing.

Is that the Main Stand or the Bullens in the background. Strange, looks too small for the Main Stand and too big for the Bullens. Either way, anyone recall what that fenced off area was about?

Goodison Park 1963-Park End - a good spec in those days -
