Fear not mate its just a gas axe, not an arc welder, no spark to give you arc eye...which was murder, burns the back of the retina, like having sand in your eye you can't get out.
The worse you rub it the worse it got.

There's only 2 rules in arc welding
1) Don't look at the light
2) Never get hold of the hot end.
Spot on........I thought that looking at the photo. It didn't look like the guy was stick welding...
I've had welders flash(arc eye) in my time. Mainly when I was an apprentice. You soon learn not to look at someone welding. Any Flash or flames or sparks. not good for the eyes. And you are spot on ......arc welding is the worse. Although all naked flames can be bad for your eyes. Try watching someone using oxy-acetylene gear without protective goggles.
Anyhow......im.finished with that sort of work. It's a younger man's game nowadays. And everything is more regulated than in my day. Certificates needed for everything.......Nowadays you almost need a university degree.
The health and safety is (I suppose necessary) but way ott.
Take care........I'm off before I turn this thread into a welders convention.
Up The Toffees.........
