Old Everton Pictures

Trying to google it and the only reference is a 4-0 reverse to Ipswich at home of course.
I cant remember.
But I've seen photos, the red echo, maybe.
Got to say even up to last season that is still the finest away performance I have seen at Goodison from an away side, they were truly magnificent on the day,a team goal that Gates finished off was truly a work of footballing beauty!!,how the hell we turned them over in the cup a couple of weeks later I will never know!!!

...a few years ago they were talking about the noisiest grounds in football on TalkSport and Alan Brazil spoke about an FA Cup game at Goodison and that he’d never played in an atmosphere like it.

Yeah,it was old school Goodison that day Eggs, facing them again on the back of that 4-0 drubbing, the crowd knew they had a massive part to play if we were even to compete with Ipswich that day and good god we did!!Latch with the first and Brian Kidd with a great free kick for the second, the roof nearly did come off when that went in!!They scrambled a goal in injury time which led to a truly nervy last couple of minutes but we held firm thankfully!!

....I was definitely there but I don’t recall that detail. Those nights are great at Goodison, the cup generates such interest when we get to the business end.

Too true mate, just such a shame talking about such occasions with crowds, god knows when life and to a less important degree football will be back to what we all remember.

...absolutely, Dario. Interesting discussion, though. I think games like last nights were so much easier because there was no crowd, but it would be a huge advantage if we had Goodison bouncing for West Ham.

That really brings me back. I was a mid- teenager then. I made my first trip to see the Blues in England in 80 at Old Trafford. Gary Birtles' home debut for the Mancs.

I was 15 and got held up by Plod when I got off the boat in Liverpool. The Troubles were in full swing then. I had arranged to meet my brother in Manchester off the train but of course I missed the planned connection because of Plod.

No mobile phones then!! Anyway he hung around until I finally arrived.

Totally agree,
Eric Gates played three one twos , then thumped it passed Gëorge Wood from the edge of the box.
The best goal and team performance from the away team I have ever witnessed.
Proud to say I was there when the Goodison crowd gave them a standing ovation.
Muhren, Thyssen, Beattie, Gates, Mariner,,, what a team
