Old Everton Pictures

Highfield Rd was one of our bogie grounds, I think.

That team was very good but, for me, as was the case all too often, just didn't have that last ounce of quality to do things.
Spot on........Coventry were a bogie team. Just looked back at results for that season......WBA beat us twice. Bloody West Brom.
We also struggled against Leeds utd.......Bolton and Ipswich. We finished 4th that season. But as you say ...we were just missing that little bit of extra quality. Mainly in defence imo...

My older brother went to the Highfield road ground with his mates in a car we won that day, the local home James coach driver told them it was awkward to get there in the late 1960s ..... best laugh was the four of them in the car got lost in Coventry City Centre - kick off time was getting close - a load of arguments arose like hey we have past this shop three times already etc - then one of his mates came up with a great idea local Coventry city fans were cueing up at a bus stop -

Hey offer one of them a lift to the ground, so he will know the way? We've got room for one in the car...... Brilliant they stopped shouted free lift to the game room for one person - this Coventry fan with a Coventry scarf rushed in - jumped in immediately they set off.....
After a few minutes of asking for directions the poor sod was death and dumb - they flung him out & went on to the next bus stop to make sure this time the fan knew where the ground was - Evertonian's that lol lol
Everton won......

Leeds Utd 3 Everton 2 in Aug 1970 at Elland Road. Norman Hunter bite your legs on the ball
Kendall and Bally in pursuit proper class footballers ! -
This may have been the game were Bally upset Kendall & Newton as Captain ....... 2-1 up and Newton was at fault for their winner - HK tussled with Bally over a free kick on who should take it etc Ballys Captaincy was showing signs of his hatred of losing a game ......

Is right. We had a couple of defenders who would have died for the club - absolute warriors but just not good enough against the best.
