In a nutshell, there went our double.
Conceded 7 goals in 11 games (three of them in the final, of course) won 7, drew two, lost two.
Honestly think it had more to do with their fantastic run than anything we did.

Don't be giving them any credit. The outcome of that season gave me the worst feeling to date as an Evertonian.

I think Nev in goal might have had an effect in the final. The league? Can't see we could have done too much more.
Heard it was Linkers left behind boots ....v Oxford away ?.......that stopped us winning the league?
Did Bobby Mimms do that much harm?

Yeah,they gained something like 37 points from 39 which was ridiculous particularly after coming out of the Anfield derby something like eight points clear and laughing at them, however such were the small margins and Nev was so,so special I truly do think he would have been the difference that year for us.

I think Nex would have been a key factor in the final, as I say. Can't see how he'd have made any difference in the 10 league games he missed tbh. If anyone had an impact, in my view it was Lineker at Oxford. Not his finest hour (and a half!)
Thing is, they were a trophy winning machine throughout the 80's. We did well to keep pace and surpass them for a while. There's no shame.

Aye, Lineker that evening missed half dozen or so chances that given he scored 40 goals that season should have put a couple away. I've never got over it, I was numb for weeks.
We were all gutted could have had the double , and that lot robbed us of both threw it away....sob
He came to us about two years too late imo -
The late, great Thomas Royston Vernon - Roy for short. Roy gets airborne at Upton park in April 1963. He scored a decisive goal for the Toffees in a 2-1 win in the title run-in.
Two great number 9s for us The GV & Joe Royle - Lucky to have seen them both play - two contrasting no 9s.... Joe got the same stick early in his carrer as DCL does on the GOT DCL thread......
