Going back to the Bryan Douglas post. He was a great little player, but him being a right winger by trade,
He naturally lost out in that position for England as a certain Mr. Stanley Matthews owned the No. 7 shirt.
Douglas moved to inside left and was just as effective. Everton won the First Division in 1962/63 losing
3 points to only 1 team, that was Blackburn and the main protagonist was Bryan Douglas.
He continued to be a thorn in our side for the next couple of seasons too until we bought the man who ftired the bullets he made - Pickering.
He was so effective that one game...a home game too, Catterick paid him the 'complement' of putting Denis Stevens to man mark him...very avant garde tactics for the day.
It worked up to a point, we managed to hang on for a draw...2-2 iirc
Which was better than the pasting they gave us the season before

Edit; one of the first wingers to morph into a midfielder...and very good he was to
