That could be my grandad standing there! There is family folklore that says he played one game for Everton when they were short of players due to a flu epidemic. Never found out if it was true. He played mostly for Old Xaverians (who are still going) and a team called Valkyrie. I have a team photo which I am sure is Valkyrie. There was a lad played in the team who was an electrician on the Titanic. Sadly he didn't survive.

The name of the Titanic guy was Peter Sloan. Googling 'Peter Sloan' provides a summary of his life. He was the same age as my granddad - both born 1881.

Great pic that. In perfect centre forward symmetry, body shape stretching every sinew to try to deliver the article into the net. Straight shooter, heading, all round boss no 9. Legend.
