Although Tony Kay was before my time I remember my Dad who was involved with Liverpool County Combination teams and a true blue taking me to see him play.
He'd obviously not played Division 1 football for years and was turning out for a Sunday League Team on Sefton Park. Distant memories tell me it was for the Farmers Arms. Huge crowd turned up for the game.....10 deep around the pitch.
Also on the same theme and around the same time an ex Everton fullback turned out for my Dads team, Lucas Sports. Just can't remember who he was and sadly my Dad's no longer around to ask. I saw many more ex pros play in these leagues too. A far cry from today.
