Old Everton Pictures

It's great i had the the privilege to see 6 of that team and agree especially the full back pairing ,i loved Alex Parker and especially his slide tackles even in the street ,many a ripped trousers and friction burns. My mother would go mad but my dad would understand, hard times but good times.
Glad you enjoyed it, Buddy. I developed a soft spot for such compilations during my Dad's last months - they were a great way of taking his mind off the pain caused by his cancer. He had a few non-negotiables in his XI - TG & Lawton spring to mind - but remained remarkably open-minded about the merits of those who didn't feature in his beloved 1938-39 championship side. Southall, for example, pipped Ted Sagar, and so on. I didn't see Parker, but, like you, I could live with that full-back pairing. Not so sure about the midfield, though. Can you imagine Reid and Bobby Collins in tandem? What would the ref do with all the wounded littering the pitch?

We tend to assess players by their performances & participation in successful sides. Howard Kendall's form in the dire season 1972-73 exposes the folly of that view. He was magnificent, as the below editorial from The Evertonian reminded readers.

730922 Evertonian editorial on Howard Kendall's form (The Evertonian, No 7, 2).webp

My late father raved about T G Jones - then his other favourite Dave Hickson - I had an EFC scrap book at the age of 6 years old - seen them a few times that season sat on a crash barrier in his arms so I could see the game ... - Born a Blue .... - great to see your post @Major Gowen ;)
