In December 1984, here’s a sad image from the same day. Adrian Heath due for an England call up - is helped off the pitch by John Clinkard after his knee injury (would be stretchered off now). Peter Reid later exacted retribution on Brian Marwood -

Was there the day that happened, was an dreadful tackle from Marwood. Don’t think there was anyone in the ground who didn’t immediately think that Marwood would “suffer” for it at some point later in the game!

The working man's game - look at the prices turning up on spec too - 25p to get in the ground standing -10p the Boys pen - grandstand sitting down 40p - with cushion hire etc

40p for a seat (and a cushion, with good aerodynamics for sending hurtling on to the pitch at full time). If admission prices had only kept price with general price inflation to this day, we'd be paying only £6.45 for that ticket.

The all seated stadia plus Sky TV pushing players wages up to filmstars wages has not helped too - A club used to rely on big gates to pay all the players wages ,- plus a bonus wage for a win .....

Also fans used to vote with their feet if results were poor ..
