My mate was instrumental in them digging out the original trophy for 1987 winners. Do not know full story though. Just know a few people saw the poor trophy being planned and idea of using the old one gathered momentum.

That Today newspaper sponsored trophy was horrible. Piece of glass on wood. If you ever look at footage of the lap of honour, our players are not interested in holding it. There is some officious little man (probably PR or sponsors rep) trying to force onto / give the trophy to the players.
