You're on the money with that observation. It more than likely would have been chalked off. I say this every time that clip is shown but me and sixty thousand others were blessed that day to witness probably the best team performance I've seen.

….it’s a truly magnificent goal. Young absolutely magnificent, sublime quality, serene movement and bravery.

I was also reminded of Ray Wilson beginning that move, how he used to stop the ball & take a step back before delivering the pass. I remember that distinctly from when I was a youngster, he was a top player as well.
