Loved the football from back in those days. Loved the kits. The leather ball. The muddy pitches. (Although Wembley was far from muddy). The characters. Could name almost every player from other clubs back then. Every team has a big hard as nails defender. Every team has a top goal scorer. Every team has their characters. Or so it seemed to me.
Couldn't nowadays name many players from other teams.
Guess I'm just an old romantic ( nostalgic ) for those days. Great stuff.

The hard as nails defender you mention, for me in my earlybdays of support for us was Sunderland legend Charlie Hurley.
Proper nails.

Yep,the league was so much more open back then compared to the closed shop nowadays, seemed to be a different side winning it every year and it would not have surprised anyone if a Stoke,West Ham or Wolves had of won it also, well at least until the RS era of domination!!
