A disgrace indeed. Although Colin made his England 'debut' in this game (link below) a 4-0 friendly vs Mexico in 1969, alongside Ball & Bell in midfield, only to find out later on that it wouldn't go down as an official cap. A real shame. The eye injury cost him his place in the squad for Mexico.

It may well have been mate, England were especially reliant on overlapping fullbacks at this time. I personally think Keith Newton runs Bobby Moore close as England best player in the 1970 tournament, not only did he provide more assists than anyone in the squad- despite playing one game less than many of them- but his work rate up and down the flanks would be quite impressive nowadays, never mind 50+ years ago (same with Tommy W and Terry Cooper).

Signed by Palace from Everton on 8 June 1970, 52 years ago today. Any Blues remember this welsh born player. (Didn’t really work out at Palace, 5 appearances and sold to Crewe ) - they can’t all be Whittles!
