Yeah, I've heard that before, hard to say if it was the right decision as I'd imagine Man Utd were on MOTD more than anyone and it didn't do their success much harm during the 60s.The Catt also banned them from the training ground too, he had a right fall-out with the media - his reason he did not want us on screen for other teams to analyse his tactics plus the money was not that great for television back then .... even Bill Shankly showed his concerns , but not to the degree of what the Catt did..
It's hard luck I was fortunate to see the blues at home & away 1967 onwards - what a beautiful footballing side they were - at an away game the pitches were mud bogs the home team deliberately still watered the pitch down - but nothing could stop the holy trinity & co - Colin Harvey was correct better football was produced before we clinched the Championship in 1969/70 - as injuries bans almost cost us that season -Yeah, I've heard that before, hard to say if it was the right decision as I'd imagine Man Utd were on MOTD more than anyone and it didn't do their success much harm during the 60s.
I have most, if not all, available games from MOTD from that era. Like you said Joey, mostly away and even then often draws (Chelsea, Arsenal, Wolves). The 1980s is my era really, so i grew up at a great time to be a Blue too. But, as i am/was a keen collector* of Everton games from that era (and also the likes of Ajax). It's hard luck I was fortunate to see the blues at home & away 1967 onwards - what a beautiful footballing side they were - at an away game the pitches were mud bogs the home team deliberately still watered the pitch down - but nothing could stop the holy trinity & co - Colin Harvey was correct better football was produced before we clinched the Championship in 1969/70 - as injuries bans almost cost us that season -
Bally was a very special world class box to box midfielder, but the team clicked - goals came from all over the pitch we had one no 9 he was so special to me after older fans writing him off when he replaced the GV - They were a classy hard-working unit from back to front ...
Colin Harvey was our white Pele started of as a forward - never quite reached his potential there, but the Catt saw his ability in midfield.I have most, if not all, available games from MOTD from that era. My fave player from then is definitely Colin- who i regarded as the #1 Evertonian of all-time too (fan as a boy, legendary player, youth coach 1st team coach, manager- the lot)- and I think his grace & elegance, combined with his determination and workrate perhaps sum up the 'school of science' nickname the most from the Catt era. Kenneth Wolstenholme on commentary loved him too. A top bloke too.
* My collecting also saw my obtain a very rare full 90 mins of the famous "Shankly moan" Inter-RS Euro semi from 1965....all the goals were legit.![]()
