No, the full backs often do that job, whereas a midfield flank player is just as like to be inverted (e.g. Robben/Ribery who'd favour coming inside instead) and there's more 'passing' through defence rather than crossing. The number 9 role has changed for the most part and they tend to have a better all-round game and come a lot deeper (e.g. the Sharp/Lineker combo looks a lot different to the Kane/Son combo) but there's no longer many old-school 'one-on-ones' ( a good battle that was commonplace back in the day and still around 20 years ago with the likes of Ferguson vs Keown).Do we really get wingers like that in today's game ? The Moggsys - the Dave Thomas - Goodlass style wingers who got to the by line & sent over an unbeatable cross to a no 9 as they knew where they were lucking?
