Now this fella was a real Everton player. I used to dread him having a good game against United or Spurs, for fear that they would want to buy him.
I used to wear much the same expression watching him dealing with crosses.
Yes he was a bit iffy on crosses for a tall ex police cadet, - he could have a blinder one week & indeed kept Westy out of the team - then especially in important games make blunders - the 1/4 final away at Forest was a typical exampleI used to wear much the same expression watching him dealing with crosses.
Absolutely correct. Had a bad habit of misjudging the flight of the 12-yard tantalisers - not the worst sin, but it did tend to happen in important games. (My first thought was the Old Trafford semi against you-know-who, but you were right, also true of that fantastic game at Forest in '67.)Yes he was a bit iffy on crosses for a tall ex police cadet, - he could have a blinder one week & indeed kept Westy out of the team - then especially in important games make blunders - the 1/4 final away at Forest was a typical example
Yes that game as well, but we lost Captain Labone to let them get back in that game - The Catt was ill & our substitute every round was Roger Kenyon was swapped by Wilf Dixon for Sandy Brown who was no match for Toshack - even Joe Royle at half time offered to play centre half & let sandy Brown into his position - DOH An Everton That moment - pivotal as the Catt stupidly was in ill health & broke that great side up after that game eventually - a crunch week of going out of two big cup competitions in 4 days .....Absolutely correct.
