Tony Kay -
Im mainly referring to Tony not being capped earlier- and also not featuring after his first cap in 63 (as there were a few more games before his ban). Seems strange if Alf planned to build a team around him when he wasn't even being picked to start. When did Alf say this quote anyway? If he ever did?he was banned for life from any football & jailed shortly afterwards for match fixing .....along with 3 others from Sheffield Wednesday
His move to a top team from a 2nd division team, maybe?Im mainly referring to Tony not being capped earlier- and also not featuring after his first cap in 63 (as there were a few more games before his ban). Wednesday finished 2nd in 1961.His move to a top team from a 2nd division team, maybe?
2nd division - Labby stated he had never played along someone as good as him, but Tony knew it & was a bit of a big head about it - Bally would have loved him in the side years later, but we would have missed out on the Holy Trinity - I just missed seeing Tony Kay, but my late father & older brother raved about him .... by the time I was to see him play he was banned ....Wednesday finished 2nd in 1961.
Stop talking nonsense.2nd division
I'm not disagreeing, but none of them were England manager and he wasn't in Ramsey's preferred starting 11. Hence the single cap.2nd division - Labby stated he had never played along someone as good as him, but Tony knew it & was a bit of a big head about it - Bally would have loved him in the side years later, but we would have missed out on the Holy Trinity - I just missed seeing Tony Kay, but my late father & older brother raved about him .... by the time I was to see him play he was banned ....
Its hard to play for your country when you are banned from all football - he had just broke into the side - you are being a little unfair as most Blues reckon Nobby Styles would not have seen a shirt for England if Tony Kay had been allowed to play..... but we will never know....I'm not disagreeing, but none of them were England manager and he wasn't in Ramsey's preferred starting 11. He wasn't getting picked before that though, thats the point. Just the once, and not after that. Its hard to play for your country when you are banned from all football - he had just broke into the side - you are being a little unfair as most Blues reckon Nobby Styles would not have seen a shirt for England if Tony Kay had been allowed to play..... but we will never know....
