A decent book, mostly for the newspaper cuttings…some of George’s stories are funny and he’s definitely a well-travelled blue… but he goes on about Liverpool way too much in this book (even in his introduction) and claims the “banks of royal blue Mersey” song had the lyric “to hell with Liverpool and Celtic too” (which must have been just a personal thing with him and his mates, I guess).
They all count - he was on fire scoring in the run in forecast to be the next Dennis Law .....Off his knee Joey.
Koff. Worldy from thirty yards. They all were.Off his knee Joey.
It was also the 2nd goal that day, not the 1st.They all count - he was on fire scoring in the run in forecast to be the next Dennis Law .....
Yep it was - we should have had more in the 2nd half TBF where I was stood some Kopites leaving early marvelled over our midfield - The Holy Trinity as it was to be known by later - they could pass the ball to each other in the dark as Bally used to say .....It was also the 2nd goal that day, not the 1st.
Yes, the first goal in that game shows their link-up play in midfield to great effect...didn't Bally call them the Panzer Division? I remember Labby in an interview calling them "Los Tres Magnificos".Yep it was - we should have had more in the 2nd half TBF where I was stood some Kopites leaving early marvelled over our midfield - The Holy Trinity as it was to be known by later - they could pass the ball to each other in the dark as Bally used to say .....
Labby stated those 3 will be remembered for winning the title, but he also stated it was a great all round attractive football team from the front & from the back ....Yes, the first goal in that game shows their link-up play in midfield to great effect...didn't Bally call them the Panzer Division? Aye...even in World Soccer magazine around that time, one of their writers (i think Brian Glanville or Eric Batty) said the only English teams he likes to watch were Everton, West Ham, Man Utd and Derby and didn't care for the rest.Labby stated those 3 will be remembered for winning the title, but he also stated it was a great all round attractive football team from the front & from the back ....
I used to go home & away in those days within reason - as you just knew we were so good ....Aye...even in World Soccer magazine around that time, one of their writers (i think Brian Glanville or Eric Batty) said the only English teams he likes to watch were Everton, West Ham, Man Utd and Derby and didn't care for the rest.
