Yep it took till 2009 I think it was for Gentleman Jim to get his medal. The whole squad got one.….presume Armfield picked up a medal for being part of the 1966 squad. No subs in those days.

Absolutely.….and quite right too. It seems so harsh that back then only the 11 who played in the final itself received a medal.

He turned down the chance to go to Mexico as back up keeper.…I have it in mind that was 1969, Joey. I think we played Mexico a year before the World Cup (didn’t West opt not to go in 1970?). Newton was with Blackburn but Tommy Wright was definitely on that tour.

The cat - played like a teddy bear - doh....…and Peter Bonetti had to play in the defeat by West Germany. I suppose things could have worked out differently, many thought we had a better squad than ‘66.
