Roger Kenyon finally gets his 1970 Championship medal - for @TangerineToffee

Roger Kenyon was finally presented with a 1969/70 League Championship medal on Monday afternoon.

The Football League recently changed the rules regarding the awarding of medals, meaning that some players who hadn’t played sufficient games at the time can now receive one retrospectively.

Blues Chairman Bill Kenwright authorised the purchase of medals for those who now qualify and Kenyon was presented with his by former teammate Joe Royle during the annual Everton Former Players’ Foundation Christmas Lunch.

Great picture and with his old mate big Joe presenting an honour so deserved. Better late than never I say. A big character is Rog make no mistake.

Great tackle. Would most likely be sent off these days for making that sort of contact. I remember a player recently being sent off , and he touched the ball first. But the tv punters said he was sent off for the intent? What's that?.. Great photo though.

Lucky we got Joe Royle - his Dad was a Manchester United lover - he started off as a wing half in those days of formation at the age of 15 years old for Lancashire Schoolboys - even the other lot were in to try to sign him -

Had it not been for his back injury, I believe Joe had every chance of becoming Everton's highest post war scorer. He was still a good centre forward when he came back after his long rehab, but, good not great. Before the back injury he had 3 or 4 seasons when he was outstanding and that was as a player in his late teens and early twenties. I really believe that, had he not suffered the back injury, which plagued his later career and just seemed to reduce his mobility a bit, he would have become one of the truly great Everton players.
