My old man always tells me Stevens wasn't easy on the eye but brought a balance to that team, did a lot of the Donkey work which allowed the others to flourish.
Yes The Catt made a big mistake in selling Bobby Collins a craftsman box to box midfielder who scored goals & was as hard as nails & Captain - like Bally captain never ever wanted to leave - asked for a pay rise as he kept us up single handed one season - even worse sold him to a down & out team - Leeds...

Roy Vernon stated watching Collins week in week out - I am glad I dont play v this guy every week, he is brilliant - hard as nails ...

Dennis Stevens got a lot of stick - a cousin of Duncan Edwards in his own style, a great player - He was never big enough in the fans' opinion to be as Good as Bobby Collins idolised by the fans -

Dennis Stephens was in a very good team - a grafter - It took time to warm the Goodison hearts after your star player had been sold - I saw him play, but just missed Wee Bobby who my late father & older brother claimed that he was at that time a one-man team .....

Maybe the first one-man box to box midfielder in the UK - with Leeds in 1965 as captian wee Bobby in 1965 - footballer of the year in a top division. When he transferred to Leeds he kept them up from dropping into Division 2 runners-up in the FA Cup & lost the title to Man United on goal difference - & we stupidly sold him like we sold Bally years later

Leeds were going to be a thorn in the Catts side afterwards.....
