I might be biased but Mike was the best centre half I ever saw play. 6’3” and he could jump. Plus he was good enough on the ball to play in midfield and up front.
I was in the shed end what a goal that was - right behind it at the front - Gary Sprake waiting to catch it Joe dived horizontally to flick it over his shoulder for the equaliser - then they crawped a late winner with 3 blatant fouls in the build up - doh a long drive for my brothers mates over the Pennines ... no M62 then - It would have won goal of the season back then if MOTD had one -
