Dave Thomas made his debut v us - aged 16 years old became the youngest player ever to play top flight football for the club at the age of 16 years and 220 days old.
The teams on the day of his debut were; in a 1-1 draw - Bally getting scoring a pen when Jimmy Husband was fouled for the equaliser -

Everton: Gordon West, Tommy Wright, Ray Wilson, John Hurst, Brian Labone, Colin Harvey, Alan Ball, Jimmy Husband, Fred Pickering, Jimmy Gabriel, Johnny Morrissey. Sub not used: Sandy Brown.

Referee: Mr J. E. Carr (Sheffield).

Attendance: 11,634.

Royston Vernon scored 111 goals in his 200 matches for the Toffees, despite his habit of smoking in the tunnel both pre- and post-match as he was a prolific chain smoker - if he had not touched the deadly weed he may have been better than Law & Greaves - he was prolific in speed over 9 yards. He also scored prolifically for Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City in his times there.
He had a thunderous shot and only ever missed one pen when he scuffed the ball-All the rest he could point to the keeper where he was aiming the ball, it still went in - for @roy vernon & co -
