Old Everton Pictures

...oh my, what a footballer. When you needed something in tight games he'd pop up with a goal.
Why did we ever let him go mate?,I remember hearing Joe Royle saying he felt Bally had suffered from niggling injuries/burn out from the Mexico World Cup,Joe reckoned Catterick should have told him just simply to have 2/3 months off and he would have come back recharged. We may in Harrys words of had 5 great years and doubled our money, but what we lost as a club was far more long term damaging.

..I don't know, Dario. It was certainly one of those 'where were you when President Kennedy got shot' moments when he was sold, I can remember my mum waking me up with the full back page of the Daily Mirror saying he'd gone. No rumours in those days, just a massive shock.

I suppose you can only take Catterick at his word but Ball showed at Arsenal and Southampton that he was still a cut above the rest. I still shake my head but he'll always be the greatest for me.

Rumours were rife gambling addiction etc never proved no it was HC the gaffer in fact I bought an old 1971 semi final programme v Liverpool 1971 interesting read as HC does an article on his team on Alan ball he states "Alan Ball 11 commandment is thy should not lose" then raves about him in so many ways - then the most crucial bit made me frown-
Everton FC would only expect a transfer fee for of £,1000,000 for him - urm he sold him for a mere £200,000
like Labby stated he did the same with bobby collins who bit us harder than selling Bally as he played on to become footballer of the year at leeds under Revie, and was the cornerstone as player the later coach to build there talented dirty midfield that won most honours - bally could put it abot but my older brother seen them both Collins was a totally diferent player to bally , but just as effective again sold to soon so cheap too!

Packed crowd, muddy pitch, Alan Kipper Clarke's (or Sniffer) familiar round-shouldered figure. All the wonder of the sixties.

..I don't recall Geoff Nulty being Assistant Manager but my memory is useless.
