...or, the only side we've never beaten in top flight football. I remember the game at Goodison when Chris Balderstone really impressed for Carlisle. He was one of those who played first class cricket in the summer and went on to be an umpire but he was a fine footballer.

Billy Butler was the announcer at the ground in those days. I will never forget what he said when the final whistle blew in that game: 'I don't believe it' (ever before Victor Meldrew made the phrase popular!). Nothing else after that , just silence. If I recall correctly, we were 2-0 up, and just fell apart. Got absolutely battered in the away game, and they still got relegated...
